Everyone here at Tranquility Bay loves January– that perfect period of calm and quiet after the craziness of December has ended. The weather is sunny and warm (but not boiling), the streets are calm (but not deserted), and the fishing is excellent (but not crowded). In short, it’s the perfect time for a vacation to the Florida Keys…especially for those of you who need a quiet break from all the previous month’s hectic holiday activities.
After the hustle and bustle of Christmas and New Years is over, why not shove the tinsel and wrapping paper aside and take a relaxing, tropical vacation to our beautiful beachfront property? Believe us when we say that nothing cures a case of the “holiday hangovers” like a day in paradise.
January is one of the best months for fishing here in Marathon– with mild temperatures, low winds and an astonishing range of species, it’s truly a wonderful time to be out on the water battling some of your favorites. (We’re especially partial to the excellent Sailfish bite that begins in early January.)
If you’re thinking about taking a vacation to the Florida Keys this winter, look no further: we’ve just published our January sale rates, and boy, do they look good.

It’s Friday night in Marathon! That means that if you’re looking for something other than the usual (gorgeous) sunset to watch this evening, there’s plenty of live musical acts to entertain you. Our picks for this evening are as follows…
The Brass Monkey: This iconic dive bar has been entertaining locals and visitors alike for decades. Tonight, you’ll be seeing a legend live when you stop in to see Freddie Bye and the Brass Monkey House Band shake things up. Bye has been playing at the Brass Monkey for over 30 years, and his special brand of rock and roll is always worth a listen.
The Hurricane: Locals have swarmed this fun-loving bar for over 50 years, and tonight The Swinging Harpoon will have you on your feet with their big southern bluesy rock. These boys can play a harmonica like they invented it. Go tonight! You won’t be sorry.

For us, the best part of Memorial Day Weekend has always been relaxing around a BBQ with an ice cold drink, surrounded by friends and family. It’s an American tradition that is hard to let go of– even if you’re currently holed up in paradise. So, this weekend, why not head over to Sombrero Beach and grill up a few burgers in their public, grassy BBQ pits? With plentiful parking, picnic seating and a crisp, clear ocean just steps away, it’s the perfect place to celebrate the holiday while not sacrificing the ambiance of your vacation. So grab a couple of burgers, pile into the car and head on over! And if you’re still craving a little celebratory cheer, we think the Butterfly Martini at The Butterfly Cafe is the perfect end to a long day at the beach.
Nestled away from Highway One is arguably one of the nicest beaches in the Florida Keys: Marathon’s own Sombrero Beach, located at mile-marker 50. With a remote-feeling location away from traffic that is quiet and pristine, Sombrero beach is the perfect place to while away the hours of your Marathon vacation. Free to enter, it has large parking areas and hosts facilities that are modern, spotless and attractive. Try a leisurely swim in pristine, calm waters or lay back and dig your toes into the soft, white sand. The adjoining park offers picnic benches, shade areas, nice bathrooms, volleyball courts, outdoor showers and stunning oceanside views. In addition, after a 2001 redevelopment by the city of Marathon, the beach now offers full handicap accessibility. Sombrero beach is surrounded by water on both its south and west side, giving visitors ample room to stretch out and feel secluded in their own private oasis. Be sure to stay late and catch the famous Keys sunset from the west side, where views are truly picturesque!
