The water might be getting colder here in Marathon but the fishing is heating up by the day!
We’re loving the high numbers of sailfish being pulled in by offshore charters recently…those mighty fish really do pack an incredible fight. Equally impressive are the large kingfish being hooked, as well as some big sharks (always a terrifying battle!) and even the occasional blackfin tuna, that elusive prize. While the recent high winds have made it tricky to find a perfect day to get out on the water, we’re hopeful that this week will be calmer than last.
Reef & flats fishing is, as always, excellent in November– you’d be hard pressed to find an area without an abundance of snapper species ready to bite.
Our front desk agents here at Tranquility Bay are always happy to help you select the fishing charter that best fits your needs. Whether it’s a full day out on the water with your family or a last minute shared seat on someone else’s boat, let our Marathon hotel employees lend their expertise. We’re sure you won’t be disappointed.
When you live someplace tropical, anything less than 85 degrees can feel a little chilly. This weekend, we’re throwing on a cozy sweater before we head out on the water. It appears that winter may have finally arrived here in the Keys– or at least, the later days of autumn. In any case, the sweltering temperatures we felt a few weeks ago have been replaced with cooler, crisper weather that makes us want to go exploring outside (and by exploring, we mean fishing. Definitely.)
The forecast for this weekend looks good, with party cloudy skies throughout and temperatures in the mid-to-high 70′s range. Sunday looks to be the hottest, so if you’re deciding on which day might be best for lazing by the pool or beach, that’s our pick.
Winds are expected to stay in their currently gusty state, with gusts of up to 20mph expected by Sunday. (Perhaps not the best weekend to go sailing if you’re not a bit adventurous.)
As always, stop by the front desk at Tranquility Bay if you need suggestions for fun activities for you and your family.
Here’s the weather roundup:
We’re thrilled that Costal Living magazine has chosen to feature Tranquility Bay as part of its “Fabulous Villa Vacations” spread, located in their current issue on stands now! Everyone here at Tranquility Bay loves January– that perfect period of calm and quiet after the craziness of December has ended. The weather is sunny and warm (but not boiling), the streets are calm (but not deserted), and the fishing is excellent (but not crowded). In short, it’s the perfect time for a vacation to the Florida Keys…especially for those of you who need a quiet break from all the previous month’s hectic holiday activities.
After the hustle and bustle of Christmas and New Years is over, why not shove the tinsel and wrapping paper aside and take a relaxing, tropical vacation to our beautiful beachfront property? Believe us when we say that nothing cures a case of the “holiday hangovers” like a day in paradise.
January is one of the best months for fishing here in Marathon– with mild temperatures, low winds and an astonishing range of species, it’s truly a wonderful time to be out on the water battling some of your favorites. (We’re especially partial to the excellent Sailfish bite that begins in early January.)
If you’re thinking about taking a vacation to the Florida Keys this winter, look no further: we’ve just published our January sale rates, and boy, do they look good.

We love posting the weekend forecast a few days early here at Tranquility Bay…somehow looking at Saturday’s projected sunny skies seems to draw it a little bit closer to us here on a Wednesday afternoon.
And boy, is that forecast a good one.
This week’s clear, sunny weather is expected to improve (if that’s even possible!) to near-perfect conditions, with temperatures rising from the mid-70′s to hover in the low 80′s, humidity expected to remain minimal, and winds peaking at a breezy 10mph.
This is the quintessential beach weather we look forward to all year– a relief from the scorching temperatures we braved all summer, and the perfect chance to get out on the water or relax by the ocean.
Pack a beach bag, throw on your flip flops and meet us down by the pool. This weekend we encourage you to try all the things you’ve dreamed of trying on vacation. Maybe go jet-skiing, or sailing, or have one of our front desk agents arrange a fishing charter for you and your family.. or maybe just continue your quest to try every drink at TJ’s Tikki Bar.
It’s important to have goals, even on vacation.
From everyone at your favorite Marathon hotel…
We hope your holiday is a terrifyingly good time.
If you’re taking the kids out trick-or-treating tonight, please swing by the front desk here at Tranquility Bay so we can see their costumes!
Have fun out there, be safe, and remember: go for the King-size candy bars.
Before now, “Sandy” was just our favorite lovable dog from the Broadway show Annie. (Cue the lights; begin the high-pitched singing of “The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow.) But right now, the Sandy we’re dealing with isn’t a lovable mutt; it’s a tropical storm. Luckily, we hardly ever get totally clobbered by hurricanes here in the Keys– our friends in the Bahamas are rarely as lucky– so the most we’re looking at over the next few days is some rain and gusty winds. That means that today is a great day to grab the kids and get out on the water or beach, soak up a little sunshine and maybe pick up a board game or two (just in case) for the weekend.
The forecast over the next three days calls for sporadic rain, winds in the high 20′s and low 30′s, and temperatures in the mid-80 degree range, with skies clearing up by Sunday and sunny skies forecasted for the following week.
If you need recommendations for great places to take the kids on a rainy day, don’t hesitate to ask our front desk agents here at Tranquility Bay! They’d be happy to recommend a variety of places that are only a short drive from our Marathon hotel.
Like most Marathon Hotels, we pride ourselves on offering our visitors a well-rounded experience during their time here in the Middle Keys. Love to fish? This week’s temperatures look to be holding at about 85 degrees, with nighttime temperatures cooling off to a pleasant 75 degrees or so. The chance of rain is forecasted to hover at about 20% this week (a nice respite from this summer’s near constant threat of thunderstorms!) and we’re celebrating with a nice tropical drink down at TJ’s Tikki Bar.
Anyone want to join us?
Fall is the slow season for most fishing charters down here in the keys, with many locals choosing to go on vacation this time of year due to the lower number of visitors, but for those who are still around there is a bounty of good fishing available. The reduced numbers of anglers in the water means lower pressure on fish at the reefs and wrecks, with reports coming in that lots of yellowtail and mutton snapper are still available and biting well. In blue water there are increasing bites of cobia, sailfish and kingfish, with the occasional wahoo giving anglers the fight of their lives. Also keep in mind that the cooler water that comes with fall makes for great bonefishing, and on the higher tides keep an eye out for great permit and tarpon bites. While certainly not as busy as summer, fall is definitely an exciting time to get out there and put some lines in the water– so what are you waiting for? Talk to one of the front desk agents at Tranquility Bay to see which charter is right for you!
