Fast Boats, Fireworks and Family Fun Highlight Marathon Super Boat Grand Prix Race Weekend July 3-5

Tranquility Bay Resort will provide one of the best viewing points for the much-anticipated Marathon Super Boat Grand Prix Race on Friday July 3rd through Sunday July 5th. The actual race day is July 5th with other festivities taking place throughout the 4th of July weekend in Marathon. Book your stay at Tranquility Bay Resort for prime viewing of the race. Racing fans, Florida Keys visitors and residents can watch and cheer as powerful boats race at high speeds parallel to the Marathon shoreline near the world-famous Seven Mile Bridge during the exciting Grand Prix. Fans can meet drivers and crews from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Race Village dry pits at the Florida Keys Marathon Airport, mile marker (MM) 51 bayside, and admission is free.

Saturday, July 4th, families can enjoy a full day of activities during the annual Marathon Beach Party & Fireworks Show, featuring one of the Keys’ largest and longest fireworks displays. Revelers will gather for a patriotic parade that begins around 10:30 a.m. and proceeds from Marathon High School on Sombrero Beach Road (MM 50 oceanside), to Sombrero Beach, where a daylong celebration of food, drink, kids’ crafts and entertainment is capped off after dark with fireworks.

Race day is Sunday, July 5th, with the first race scheduled for 11 a.m. and the second at 1 p.m. Tranquility Bay Resort is a prime viewing location for the race which can be enjoyed from our Tiki Bar or beach, for paying, overnight guests only. Teams are to race in seven classes including Superboat, Superboat Unlimited, Superboat Extreme, Superboat Vee, Superboat Stock and Production 3 and 4 classes. The Gulf of Mexico race course runs parallel to the shoreline from Tranquility Bay Resort at MM 48.5 to the landmark Seven Mile Bridge.

“We have so many fans excited about offshore racing who follow the teams,” said race producer John Carbonell. “With boats from 28 feet up to 52 feet competing in the waters off the famous Seven Mile Bridge, it’s an event that anyone who loves racing just can’t miss.”

There is no charge for general race viewing at Marathon’s Sunset Park, MM 47, which is a prime spectator location at the base of the Seven Mile Bridge on the western side of Knight’s Key. Private boats are to have a designated bayside viewing area as well.

Spectator Viewing Rules:

  • Only overnight guests, staying at the resort can watch the Super Boat Grand Prix from Tranquility Bay Resort.
  • Seats are first come, first serve and spectator viewing can take place on the beach area and at TJ’s Tiki Bar.
  • No coolers are allowed on property, however, food and drinks will be available for purchase at the tiki bar.
  • Drunken and disorderly behavior will not be tolerated.
