We love posting the weekend forecast a few days early here at Tranquility Bay…somehow looking at Saturday’s projected sunny skies seems to draw it a little bit closer to us here on a Wednesday afternoon.
And boy, is that forecast a good one.
This week’s clear, sunny weather is expected to improve (if that’s even possible!) to near-perfect conditions, with temperatures rising from the mid-70′s to hover in the low 80′s, humidity expected to remain minimal, and winds peaking at a breezy 10mph.
This is the quintessential beach weather we look forward to all year– a relief from the scorching temperatures we braved all summer, and the perfect chance to get out on the water or relax by the ocean.
Pack a beach bag, throw on your flip flops and meet us down by the pool. This weekend we encourage you to try all the things you’ve dreamed of trying on vacation. Maybe go jet-skiing, or sailing, or have one of our front desk agents arrange a fishing charter for you and your family.. or maybe just continue your quest to try every drink at TJ’s Tikki Bar.
It’s important to have goals, even on vacation.
From everyone at your favorite Marathon hotel…
We hope your holiday is a terrifyingly good time.
If you’re taking the kids out trick-or-treating tonight, please swing by the front desk here at Tranquility Bay so we can see their costumes!
Have fun out there, be safe, and remember: go for the King-size candy bars.
We’re always up for a good scare here at Tranquility Bay. And while some other Marathon hotels like to raise their prices around Halloween (now that’s scary!) we prefer haunted trails to price hikes. So we’ll be sure to swing by The Haunted Hammock at Crane Point Nature Conservatory, a fun-filled Halloween treat that is not to be missed. Children 12-and-under are sure to have a spooky good time– check out our blog post highlighting this special Halloween treat here.
This Wednesday, October 31st, ghosts and ghouls of all ages are invited to trick-or-treat at Gulfside Village, a shopping plaza located at 5800 Overseas Highway. This annual Halloween party is free to all from 5:30 to 7:30 and includes refreshments, candy and a great all-ages atmosphere. Don your best costume and bring the whole family– we’ll see you there!
Before now, “Sandy” was just our favorite lovable dog from the Broadway show Annie. (Cue the lights; begin the high-pitched singing of “The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow.) But right now, the Sandy we’re dealing with isn’t a lovable mutt; it’s a tropical storm. Luckily, we hardly ever get totally clobbered by hurricanes here in the Keys– our friends in the Bahamas are rarely as lucky– so the most we’re looking at over the next few days is some rain and gusty winds. That means that today is a great day to grab the kids and get out on the water or beach, soak up a little sunshine and maybe pick up a board game or two (just in case) for the weekend.
The forecast over the next three days calls for sporadic rain, winds in the high 20′s and low 30′s, and temperatures in the mid-80 degree range, with skies clearing up by Sunday and sunny skies forecasted for the following week.
If you need recommendations for great places to take the kids on a rainy day, don’t hesitate to ask our front desk agents here at Tranquility Bay! They’d be happy to recommend a variety of places that are only a short drive from our Marathon hotel.
Like most Marathon Hotels, we pride ourselves on offering our visitors a well-rounded experience during their time here in the Middle Keys. Love to fish? Let us arrange a charter for you and your friends. Need a day at the spa? We’d be happy to take care of everything. Think heaven is hanging out with the kids on the beach? We’ve got a patch of sand with your family’s name on it.
Love scary outdoor trails arranged to spook and delight the youngsters in your life? We’ve got just the place to send you and the kids.
Presenting the Haunted Hammock at Crane Point, the perfect pre-Halloween stroll for you and your young ones, opening soon (October 26th to be precise, so mark those calendars accordingly.)
This Friday you’re going to want to gather up the kids, head over to the 63-acre Crane Point Hammock museum and nature center and get ready for some freaky (but not TOO freaky) fun, perfect for the 12-and-unders in your pack. With ghosts, ghouls, spooky trails, haunted hayrides and more, this public event is only $5 with kids under 6 admitted for free!
Crane Point Hammock is located at mile marker 50.5 bayside in Marathon, Florida– just a quick ride from our own Marathon Hotel! Ask one of our front agents for directions.
That perfect (or near-perfect) fall weather we’ve been patiently waiting for has seemingly arrived here in Marathon, bringing sunny days, calm winds and cooler nights– the perfect weather for spending the day at the pool and a night on the porch, enjoying the breeze. We’re setting up water adventures left and right…from jet-skiing to parasailing, now is the best time of the year to get out on the water for some sun & fun. Stop by the front desk here at Tranquility Bay Hotel & Resort and have one of our friendly front desk agents help you arrange the perfect outdoor activity! We know you come to our beautiful Marathon hotel to have fun, relax and really unwind, so now’s your chance to make sure you’re getting the most out of your vacation with us.
This week’s temperatures look to be holding at about 85 degrees, with nighttime temperatures cooling off to a pleasant 75 degrees or so. The chance of rain is forecasted to hover at about 20% this week (a nice respite from this summer’s near constant threat of thunderstorms!) and we’re celebrating with a nice tropical drink down at TJ’s Tikki Bar.
Anyone want to join us?
With Stone Crab Season officially under way, we’re really looking forward to this Saturday’s 2nd Annual Stone Crab Eating Contest, a celebration of that special delicacy that we all hold so dear. You’ve only got a few days left to register for this “tasty test of crab-consuming capacity,” sponsored by the Keys Fisheries Market & Marina. Just a short ride away from our Marathon, Florida hotel, this contest is worth leaving the room for.
Entrants must be 18 years or older (with apologies to your crab-loving toddler) and pay a $25.00 entrance fee, a small price for all the succulent claw meat you can consume.
The contest starts promptly at 1:00pm on Saturday, October 20th– so don’t wait until the last minute! Register now by emailing email@example.com or calling 305-743-4353.
Fall fishing continues to be great here in the Florida keys, with almost every charter coming back with a diverse group of species. There are lots of redfish, snook and cobia in the flats (great for the fly fishermen!) as well as a good number of fish in the back country. Kingfish have been giving excellent bite out on the reefs and wrecks, along with their little cousin the cero mackerel. Daytime swordfishing and black fin tuna have been quite productive, with charters reporting large numbers of football-sized tuna and the occasional big one on every trip. The low number of boats out on the water makes this time of year an especially great time to get out there and put some lines in the water– you’re practically guaranteed to find a high yield spot without anyone to share it with!
Our Marathon hotel is wonderfully situated near some of the best fishing charters around (if we do say so ourselves!) so don’t hesitate to ask our front desk agents to set you up with a half day, full day or shared charter. And remember, our kitchen is always happy to cook your catch just the way you like it! What more can you ask for?
Well, it’s official: our favorite fall activity is now just one week away. We’re talking, of course, about Stone Crab Season– officially open on October 15th — that beautiful time of year when experts and novices alike can take to the waters to search for the beautiful (and sustainable!) crabs whose tender, sweet claw meat is considered one of the great delicacies of the Florida Keys. This year’s opening week will also include a Claw Eating Contest, so interested parties are encouraged to start their training now (crab cakes for breakfast, anyone?) Registration for the contest can be completed at: http://www.keysfisheries.com/events/
Mark your calendars, the countdown has begun!
We at Tranquility Bay Hotel are huge fans of Marathon’s Turtle Hospital, which works tirelessly to rehabilitate injured sea turtles while educating the public through outreach programs and tours of the rescue facility. Recently, The Turtle Hospital was fortunate to receive a pregnant Hawksbill sea turtle who was found severely injured in St. Croix, USVI. The staff worked tirelessly to save “Good Harbor,” named for the beach on which she was found, however the turtle’s ailments proved too critical to overcome and she succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday, October 2nd. However, a shining silver lining was announced: veterinarians at The Turtle Hospital were able to rescue a total of 58 eggs from Good Harbor, which have been put into incubation beneath transplanted sand from St. Croix. With any luck, staff at The Turtle Hospital may find themselves airlifting a generation of baby Good Hopes back to their homeland of Good Hope Beach, St. Croix. In the meantime, Marathon visitors are encouraged to stop by The Turtle Hospital, located at 2396 Overseas Hwy, Marathon, FL (MM 48.5) to take a tour of the facility and learn more about the hospital’s rescue efforts and outreach programs.
